Yaya is a native South African who now resides in Texas. Because of her success in sports (Field hockey and Track and Field) through high school she was able to get a scholarship at the University of Charleston where she continued her sports career in Track and Field. And after a couple of years she pivoted into purely working out for the love of movement where she found her love for the gym.
She has struggled with her mental health over the last few years, but working out was the only thing that was able to get her out of bed. She truly believes that working out helped her keep her head above the water. This added a new meaning to why she moves her body - “it taught me how to control what I can and leave what I can not control.”
